Bronx woman robbed and raped in predawn assault

BRONX, NY – A 36-year-old woman was attacked early Sunday in the Bronx when a man grabbed her by the neck, sexually assaulted her, and stole her belongings before fleeing into the dark streets, police said.

The attack unfolded around 5 a.m. near East Gun Hill Road and Putnam Place, where the assailant confronted the woman, forced himself on her, and then took off with her property, which contained an unknown amount of cash. The victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, where she was listed in stable condition.

Suspect on the run

The attacker, who has not been identified, was last seen running eastbound on Gun Hill Road. He is described as a man with a dark complexion, wearing black pants, a black jacket, and white sneakers.

Police investigation underway

Detectives are canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage in an effort to track down the suspect. No arrests have been made.
