Brooklyn man fatally shot outside Belmont Avenue building Christmas Eve morning

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A 46-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday morning in Brownsville, marking a deadly start to Christmas Eve in Brooklyn, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 9:48 a.m. reporting a shooting in front of 182 Belmont Avenue, within the 73rd Precinct. When they arrived, they found Marcin Iwanowicz, of 1013 Avenue J, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS rushed Iwanowicz to One Brooklyn Health–Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, though no arrests have been made and a motive has not yet been determined.
