Wild backyard gunfire rattles Glen Burnie neighborhood on New Year’s Eve
Glen Burnie, MD – A quiet New Year’s Eve in Glen Burnie erupted into chaos when two men were seen firing guns from the back deck of a home, spraying bullets into nearby woods and damaging a neighbor’s house just before midnight.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were called to the 7900 block of Stone Haven Drive after reports of gunshots shattered the calm in the northern Anne Arundel County neighborhood. Upon arrival, one officer spotted two men actively shooting from the rear deck of a residence. The pair dropped their weapons when they noticed police and retreated inside the house.
As backup arrived, several individuals exited the home and were detained. Officers conducted a search and located one of the suspected shooters—identified as 45-year-old Rahim Demetrius Biggers of Glen Burnie—hiding in the basement. He was arrested at the scene. The second suspect remains unidentified as the investigation continues.
Detectives recovered a Pioneer Arms rifle and a Springfield XD .45 caliber handgun from the yard. A total of 36 spent shell casings were found outside, with more casings—both spent and unspent—discovered inside the home. Evidence showed the shooters had aimed into a wooded area that separates Stone Haven Drive from High Oak Road.
A nearby residence on High Oak Drive sustained gunshot damage, but no injuries were reported. All occupants were located safely.
Northern District detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling 410-222-6135. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at 410-222-4700.
Biggers faces charges related to firearm discharge and property destruction as police continue searching for the second shooter.
