27-year-old man killed in single-car crash after slamming into utility pole in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, DE — A 27-year-old man from Middletown was killed early Friday morning when his car veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole, according to Delaware State Police.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:19 a.m. on October 10 along Summit Bridge Road, near Old Summit Bridge Road. Police say the driver was heading northbound in a Buick LaCrosse when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the east side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.

Troopers from Delaware State Police Troop 2’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are leading the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Corporal K. Oakes at (302) 365-8483.
