Queens man sentenced to 13 years for violent attack on elderly commuter

Queens, NY A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following a violent attack on a 77-year-old man on a platform at Atlantic Terminal. The sentencing follows a conviction for attempted murder.

Matthew Lloyd, 38, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Michael Kitsis. The incident occurred on August 18, when Lloyd approached the victim on the Long Island Rail Road platform and punched him multiple times.

Lloyd subsequently pushed the elderly man onto the tracks, resulting in serious injuries. Surveillance footage captured the incident, which played a critical role in the trial.

A transit worker’s quick actions prevented further injury by stopping train traffic on the track. The victim suffered ongoing pain and mobility issues as a result of the attack.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Matthew Barg and Assistant District Attorney Jane Dowling. The District Attorney’s office expressed gratitude to the staff involved in the investigation.

Utica, NY A domestic dispute on Genesee Street escalated into an alleged assault when a woman was struck in the face with a rock. The incident occurred at a residence on the 1400 block of Genesee Street.

The victim reported an argument with a woman she knew, during which the suspect picked up a rock and hit her in the side of the face. This resulted in a laceration and significant swelling.

Following the assault, the suspect fled the scene. On November 2, officers located 34-year-old Melissa Snyder and took her into custody.

She was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with assault in the second degree.

She managed to escape to safety with her one-year-old daughter. The incident escalated when the suspect threatened her with a kitchen knife.

On October 31, officers facilitated the suspect’s surrender to the Utica Police Department. He faces charges including criminal contempt in the first degree and criminal obstruction of breathing.
