A Google Trends Post-Mortem: Chris Christie Failed to Create Interest
After dismal performances in the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could be on the verge of hanging up the spikes.
Christie is expected to announce the suspension of his presidential campaign, according to national news sources today.
One thing the Governor failed to do was make a name for himself and make himself interesting or appealing. In that realm, the often abrasive governor was manhandled by Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. There was never an interest in Chris Christie on any level.
This is evident in Google Trends. Now, political pundits can mock the use of Google Trends in a political election, but let’s face it. Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump to date have owned all the buzz in the media.
Christie’s historic smackdown of Marco Rubio this weekend netted him more than just a blip on the radar nationwide.

Much of the investigative queries on Christie were negative. Of interest to Americans was the candidate’s weight and his post Hurricane Sandy bromance with President Obama.

The next Google Trends data shows searches for Marco Rubio. Having a better than average looking wife seems to have helped him along with his Google numbers.

When it comes to Donald Trump, again, the searches were positive. How much money does he have? What is he saying today? He has what is referred to sometimes as the Howard Stern Effect. Whether you hate or love The Donald, you always want to tune in to see what he says next.

The same went on for Bush and Cruz. Christie didn’t seem to figure himself out until Sunday, but it was too late to have any impact on a campaign that brought him criticism at home and on the road.
He also failed to improve his online market reach. His campaign page flatlined shortly after it launched.

Now you might say, being a political insider or pundit that this entire theory is hogwash, but ask yourself this question.. Why is your preferred candidate failing against the likes of Donald Trump. You’ll have four years to think about it and come to terms with what Americans want and how to get their attention in the age of social media and the internet. It’s not 1955 anymore and if establishment Republicans don’t get used to it, expect more of the same.

New Jersey Democrats: Under Obama, Poverty has Increased 40% in the Garden State
TRENTON-In a release issued today by the New Jersey Assembly Democrat, more New Jersey residents are in poverty than have been since 2008, when President Obama was elected. In fact, poverty in the Garden State has risen by 40% since Obama’s inauguration, according to the release. New Jersey Democrats have maintained a voting majority in both the New Jersey state senate and assembly during this period.
“According to a recent report by Legal Services of New Jersey, more New Jersey residents are in poverty now than in the past five decades. The agency estimates about 2.8 million adults and 800,000 children lived poverty in New Jersey 2014. That’s 40 percent higher than it was before the 2008 Great Recession,” Assembly Democrats said in a release today. “The current take home pay for a full time minimum wage worker in New Jersey is $17,430.40 a year.”
Democrats used those figures to introduce legislation to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 per hour.
Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson), Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee Chairman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) and Senate Economic Growth Committee Chairman Senator Raymond J. Lesniak (D-Union) join New Jersey Working Families Alliance and a coalition of other groups at a news conference in which they call for increasing New Jersey’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.
“The legislation to increase the state minimum wage to $15 is part of the Speaker’s ongoing effort to have the General Assembly focus on ways to lift New Jersey residents out of poverty, rebuild the middle-class and make New Jersey more affordable,” they said.
They also admitted that the measure would fail help those earning $15 per hour achieve basic financial stability by $4.73 per hour.
“According to a United Way report on financial need in New Jersey, a single New Jerseyan with no children would need to earn $13.78 just to afford essential needs like food and shelter, and $19.73 to achieve basic economic stability,” they said.

Former Christie Aide Rips New Hampshire Voters Days Before Primary
Frank Luna, a former confidant of Governor Chris Christie and a veteran New Jersey GOP operative mocked New Hampshire voters just days ahead of the New Hampshire primary, according to a story on Politicker, NJ.
Luna mocked New Hampshire voters, who in the polls are favoring Donald Trump thus far.
“It looks like Trump and Sanders both have pretty insurmountable leads up in New Hampshire, but I don’t think either will be the nominee for their party.” Luna said. “Given that New Hampshire roots for a baseball team that didn’t win a World Series for 86 years and a football team that lost to the Giants twice in the Super Bowl, I don’t see why they’d start picking winners now.”
“Look for a strong showing from Gov. Christie, whose relentless campaigning and field efforts will prove to be a difference maker,” he added.

New Law Prohibits Towns From Shaking Down Entrepreneurial Teen Snow Shovelers
TRENTON-Legislation sponsored by Senator Mike Doherty (R-23) ensuring that kids have the right to offer snow shoveling services before storms without municipal approval was signed into law by Governor Chris Christie.
“It’s incredible that some towns wanted kids to register as businesses or buy expensive solicitation permits before offering to shovel their neighbors’ driveways and sidewalks,” said Doherty. “This new law sends the message that kids looking to make a few bucks on a snow day shouldn’t be subjected to government red tape or fined for shoveling snow.”
The bill, S-2741 of the 2014/2015 legislative session, was drafted in response to reports of a pair of high school seniors who were stopped in January of 2015 by Bound Brook police and told they could not go door to door without a permit to hand out flyers in an attempt to solicit snow shoveling business for a snowstorm the next morning.
Doherty’s newly enacted law states that “no ordinance regulating solicitation for services shall be applicable to solicitations, whether written or oral, for snow shoveling services made within 24 hours of a snowstorm that has been predicted by a commonly recognized commercial or governmental weather reporting entity.”
“The enactment of this law is a win against big government bureaucracy that wants to regulate every little thing we do,” added Doherty. “With the potential for a big winter storm this weekend, the timing of this law couldn’t be better for New Jersey’s young entrepreneurs.”
Supply and Demand Already Taking Toll on Bernie Sanders' Campaign; No More Free Stickers
Supply and demand already seem to be plaguing socialist Bernie Sanders and he’s not even President yet. He hasn’t even secured the nomination for his party. But problems have arisen with his first handout to the American people, bumper stickers.
Sanders offers free bumper stickers to anyone who registers their email, address and phone number on his website. There’s just one problem. He’s already out of them and can’t give away any more.
Not yet, that is.
Sanders has learned a tough economics lesson this week. When things are free, Americans want them.
His campaign can’t even keep up with the supply of free stickers, how can we ever expect him to deliver to the nation free healthcare or free college? How can we take his socialist lectures about communist based economics when he can’t even practice what he preaches.
Like most socialist endeavours, the stocks have run dry and the lines are forming.
If this is a glimpse into the presidency of Bernie Sanders, it is a chilling one.
Imagine a family in need of a doctor for their child who is sick. With many choosing not to be doctors because of the lack of wages, socialized medicine will create waitlists longer than we have ever seen before for specialist care.
“Sorry, we have no doctors today, please try again later,” we’d be told.
“Sorry, we have no textbooks because the companies who publishes them have all gone out of business because we wanted more affordable books,” we’d be told.
Bernie can’t even get free bumper stickers right, how can we expect him to get free anything right?
The fact is, and 99.9% of economists would agree, Sanders’ vision of utopian socialist America just can’t happen. It’s impossible. It’s been tried before. The Soviet Union, China, Eastern Europe, Cuba and the list goes on. The American government can barely get capitalism down right, why should we ever think Bernie Sanders can get socialism right?

Obama Putting 1,500 New Boots on the Ground in Iraq Warzone
WASHINGTON-President Obama is putting new American boots on the ground in Iraq according to a message published out of New Jersey’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
“About 1,800 soldiers from two separate units will deploy to the war zone in the coming months, the Army announced Friday,” the base posted today on Facebook. “About 1,300 soldiers will deploy to Iraq this spring to support Operation Inherent Resolve. The other 500 soldiers will deploy to Afghanistan for Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.”
The United States Army confirmed the upcoming deployment of the 101st Airborne Division.

In addition, the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, stationed in Fort Drum, New York, will deploy with approximately 500 soldiers to Afghanistan this winter in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The Strike Brigade will advise and assist Iraqi Security Forces, replacing the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, which will return to Fort Drum. “2nd Brigade is ready, trained, well-lead and fully prepared to take on its new mission in support of coalition operations in Iraq,” said Maj. Gen. Gary J. Volesky, commander of 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. “The brigade recently returned from the Joint Readiness Training Center in Fort Polk, Louisiana, where the soldiers validated their outstanding ability to conduct complex operations in any environment and win,” Maj. Freeholder Kelly: Political Appointment in Limbo
Freeholder Jack Kelly said this week that his political appointment by Governor Chris Christie is in limbo.
Kelly is banking on the job at the parole board which pays members between $75,000 and $150,000 per year.
“When I was a little boy they talked about limbo,” Kelly said. “Limbo was a place that wasn’t quite heaven but certainly wasn’t hell. It’s sort of where I’m at right now.”
Kelly came under fire from New Jersey State Senator Ray Lesniak, discrediting Kelly’s experience in the field, citing no official law enforcement or criminal justice experience. Kelly does not have a college degree, Lesniak said.
“Kelly’s judgment as to an inmate’s release would be useless,” he added.
Kelly insists that his 23 years as a freeholder as the Director of Law and Public Safety makes him qualified for the job.
The freeholder once held a patronage job position at the Atlantic City International Airport, but it was short lived, working as an airport analyst. He started in 1999. He left that job in 2004.
“I’m a winner either way,” he said.
The Asbury Park Press has in-depth coverage of Kelly’s nomination process.
Matt O'Ree, New Bon Jovi Guitarist Gives Words of Encouragement to Aspiring New Jersey Musicians
For years, Matt O’Ree could be found at Surf Taco in Jackson entertaining diners with his weekly acoustic set. This past fall, O’ree, of Holmdel could be found on stage with Bon Jovi after he was chosen to replace 10 year Bon Jovi veteran Bobby Bandiera as the band’s rhythm guitarist. O’Ree, who formed the blues based Matt O’Ree band, another regular around Ocean County over the years, accompanied Bon Jovi on their 2015 fall world tour.A Letter of Encouragement for Aspiring Musicians in the Jersey Area:
To start things off in the interview with Matt O’Ree, Guitarist for Bon Jovi, and New Jersey Resident, I asked him to give aspiring musicians something they could sink their teeth into while they built their career.
Matt’s Response:
One of the things that I could say for the benefit of upcoming players is the value of teaching their instrument to other students. The guy I studied from encouraged me to teach more, and that’s what really got me started. A lot of the value came in the freedom of making my own schedule, which gave me the time and resources necessary to pursue other gigs and opportunities. At the same time, a teacher is sharing their art and ability with other musicians, essentially offering them to help them along the way.
Through teaching a younger musician a classic, they get to be involved with music that they didn’t grow up with. The teachers refine their skills, and the students learn the techniques of previous masters, you know… Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Hendrix; those guys.
Tom Rexdale (Toms River), who was my voice teacher, has provided a humbling experience for me, working with him over the last 10 years. I could never pay him back for all for the help that he’s given me. He’s the one who gave me the inspiration of being a lifetime student.
I’ve learned there’s always something to learn from everybody. I’ve learned through teaching my students, I’ve learned through Tom, and I continue to learn. Tom told me once, “If my teacher was still alive, I’d still be going to him.”
Music is just one example of how to be a lifetime student — it’s never a process that ends, because there’s always something else to learn. The freedom of teaching provides income, sharing your art, and you have more time to balance those two out.
In getting hired to play with Bon Jovi, Matt has achieved a milestone in his life. Having the opportunity to talk with him, I wanted to pick his brain for his perspective on the industry, so musicians who hadn’t quite achieved the same level of success might find their way. First, I wanted to discuss the role of Social Media for today’s Musician.
Matt’s Response:
I’d like to think that I got to the next level that I was trying to achieve, and the levels never really end. Once you’re where you wanted to go, you find there’s always more work to be done.
About Social Media and Musicians, it’s both fortunate, and unfortunate. There is so much work that gets thrust onto musicians, and it’s possible to really get sucked into it, and not be able to create art. The widespread acceptance of Illegal downloading, and the freedom of the internet has increased the work load of independent musicians. Self-promoting is a big deal, and you have to do it, but unfortunately, it becomes a lot more work that a musician needs to manage. On the positive side, musicians now have more control over promotional strategies, and what sort of content gets released; it’s a double edged sword.
When you think about making it in the industry in the 60’s, the bottom line is how much work gets put in your instrument and your craft, and how good are you at playing music — Nothing’s changed about the fundamentals — You need a great song, and a great image. Our responsibilities have increased, as well as our freedom; that is the only change. I have more promotion work to do now, than the practice time that I used to be able to have. I’ve had to find a balance, just like everyone else.
It’s not an easy thing to practice, improve your craft, and promote yourself. I will say something that gives me a lot of hope is Adele, It blew me away how many records she sold after her recent release. 14 Mil copies for a national record, I was shocked.
Next, I wanted to dive in a bit deeper about the financial side of things, so we navigated the topics of Illegal Downloading, Live Performances, and Crowdfunding, trying to find how Musicians can Adapt to current conditions.
Matt’s Response:
The best way to adapt… Hmm.
Illegal downloading really puts a damper on a machine. The Artist, the Record Label, the Promotion — they’re all affected; and that affects live performances, as far as attendance is concerned. In the music industry, prices changed from $17 a record, to a $10 record, and a $50 concert to a $150 per concert. I just paid $300 to see Eric Clapton. The show was great, but realistically, whose got $300 to go to a concert?
Concerts are important through. The one thing that the internet can’t replace is seeing the artist in person. People are still getting illegal downloads, but hopefully they can minimize what they take. There’s a whole generation online that have no concept of thinking that pirating music is wrong, because they grew up with the internet; they think that’s normal. The first example that comes to mind is a Plumber. Just think — The next time a plumber comes over to fix your sink — Are you going to pay them?
For Musicians, hopefully your art is a service that helps make a positive impact on people’s lives. The internet can’t replace the live show, and that’s great. I really think the person to person experience is where the future of music is going to be. It’s a tough balance, but the industry is still thriving. Getting people to come to your show is the new focus for the Industry. People still care about the music, they want you to sign their record at the end of the show and that sort of thing. Smaller Venues are great, because you can meet people afterward and talk. Once you start playing stadiums, you don’t really have an opportunity to connect one on one.
Interaction is a big part of art these days. A lot of artists are doing a crowdfunding type of thing to finance a cost of their record. — There is a difference between a CD and a record. You can do a CD at your house, and a record has a difference in quality, and it costs a lot of money to produce a record in a commercial studio. The amount of money is high whether you’re buying the right equipment at home, or just putting something together in a studio. A lot of people are turning to Crowd-Funding to finance production costs.
With Crowd-Funding, you can interact with your audience as a means of saying, “Thanks, for your support.”
In return, your fans are going to get signed copies, a personal letter, or a few t-shirts. High end sponsors can get a free show in their backyard, or have executive credits listed on the record, which helps to recognize their contribution to the project.
The point is to provide an opportunity for your fans to support you creating something special, which can then be shared with the rest of the group. In return, you want to make a personal connection with them, just to say, “Thank you.” Unfortunately, that does cost money, but the connection is worth it.
Having spoken to Tom Rexdale, Matt’s Vocal coach previously, I heard that Matt was playing music for a Charity Benefit, and I wanted him to have an opportunity to share what motivates him to play for a cause.
Matt’s Response:
There’s always a handful of benefits that we participate in during the year. The “Light of Day” is a concert series that raises money to end Parkinson’s disease. I contribute because it’s a great cause, and a terrible disease.
The concert will go on, Thursday, Friday Saturday, if you buy a pass, you can get access through all of the different venues. All of the music will be at Asbury Park, New Jersey.
At the end of our interview, I opened up the floor for any closing comments. He could have said anything, but these are his closing statements:
Matt’s Response:
I can’t thank everybody enough for all of the support that I’ve received after joining Bon Jovi. I’m absolutely overwhelmed with all of the support. People have said, ”It couldn’t have happened to a nicer, or more qualified person,” and that felt great.
A lot of people won’t know how many years I worked and worked to get to the next level. What was amazing to me was the amount of support I received throughout those years. I can’t thank folks enough in return for continuing to believe in me. Someone told me, “All of the hard work does pay off,” and it really did.
Even though the industry has changed a bit, success is about how much work that you put into it. Not everybody gets the ultimate success at the end of the rainbow, but if you work hard, and you never give up, you will succeed. You will achieve your goals. I can honestly say that I’m living proof of that.
Never give up. That’s the best advice that I can give to anybody. Its a nice thing to know that hard work will pay off.
You can go see Matt play with Bon Jovi, and help fight Parkinson’s at the same time!

Governor Christie Separates Himself from the Wack Pack at CNN Presidential Debate
LAS VEGAS-New Jersey Governor Chris Christie came off the bench ready to drive in runs for his trailing campaign at Tuesday night’s Republican presidential primary debate showing America that he deserved the spot in the starting lineup amongst media powerhitters Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and Ben Carson.
Christie, a former U.S. attorney, has been making a case for himself in recent weeks on the campaign trail, delivering positive messages and policy plans, generally avoiding the circus atmosphere in the race, led by ringmaster Donald Trump.
To this point, the Republican debates have revolved around the theatrics of Trump as he and the other candidates used the national platforms to poke jabs and bicker amongst each other.
This past weekend, another New Jersey native, former UFC champion Frankie Edgar, traveled to Las Vegas to win a fight and showed his peers he’s a legitimate contender. Edgar knocked out his opponent in the first round.
Christie, another Jersey kid, followed in Edgar’s footsteps on a similar pilgrimage a few days later, to show America and his peers that he is a legitimate contender to be the Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential election. While he didn’t deliver a first round knockout, he went the distance against the heavy hitters.
Christie came out swinging in is opening comments, declaring Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have failed to lead America the way Americans want to be led.
“America has been betrayed. We’ve been betrayed by the leadership that Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton have provided to this country over the last number of years. Think about just what’s happened today,” Christie said. “The second largest school district in America in Los Angeles closed based on a threat. Think about the effect that, that’s going to have on those children when they go back to school tomorrow wondering filled with anxiety to whether they’re really going to be safe.”
After rounds of bickering and bantering between the other candidates, Christie brought the debate back to ground level and reminded the others and the audience why they were all on the stage in the first place.
“Listen, I want to talk to the audience at home for a second. If your eyes are glazing over like mine, this is what it’s like to be on the floor of the United States Senate. I mean, endless debates about how many angels on the head of a pin from people who’ve never had to make a consequential decision in an executive position,” Christie said. “The fact is, for seven years, I had to make these decisions after 9/11, make a decision about how to proceed forward with an investigation or how to pull back, whether you use certain actionable intelligence or whether not to. And yet they continue to debate about this bill and in the subcommittee and what — nobody in America cares about that.”
In his closing arguments, Christie rested his case on his experience as the Governor of New Jersey and as a U.S. attorney. During his tenures, New Jersey had a front row seat in the global war against terror, starting with the attack on the World Trade Center and involving a plot to kill soldiers at New Jersey’s Joint Base MDL.
“What they [Americans] care about is, are we going to have a president who actually knows what they’re doing to make these decisions? And for the seven years afterwards, New Jersey was threatened like no other region in this country and what we did was we took action within the constitution to make sure that law enforcement had all the information they needed,” Christie said. “We prosecuted two of the biggest terrorism cases in the world and stopped Fort Dix from being attacked by six American radicalized Muslims from a Mosque in New Jersey because we worked with the Muslim American community to get intelligence and we used the Patriot Act to get other intelligence to make sure we did those cases. This is the difference between actually been a federal prosecutor, actually doing something, and not just spending your life as one of hundred debating it.”
Christie reaffirmed his commitment to halting the flow of Syrian civil war refugees, which has been infiltrated by ISIS supporters and terrorist cells until the President and congress could assure proper and reliable screening processes can be implemented.
“It’s so dysfunctional under Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. It’s so ineffective. It’s so ineffectual that the American people say, we don’t trust them to do anything anymore. So I’m not going to let Syrian refugees, any Syrian refugees in this country,” he added. “And it was widows and orphans, by the way, and we now know from watching the San Bernardino attack that women can commit heinous, heinous acts against humanity just the same as men can do it.”
While Donald Trump called for a flat-out ban on all muslims, Christie brought the discussion once again back to reality.
“And so I don’t back away from that position for a minute. When the FBI director tells me that he can vet those people, then we’ll consider it and not a moment before because your safety and security is what’s most important to me,” he added.
On the other hand, Christie said his administration’s relationship with the New Jersey muslim community is what has largely spared his state from terrorist attacks and thwarted other attempts.
Christie said he values his relationships with mosques and the muslim community as members of that community have played vital roles in assisting New Jersey law enforcement officials in proactively investigating threats against the public.
Tuesday night’s debate was the final one of 2015, but 7 more are scheduled for 2016. New Jersey’s primary election will take place on June 7, 2016.
Going into the debate, Donald Trump led the polls with 41% while Christie
How CNN, USA Today, Christian Science Monitor, Newsweek Failed to Fact Check the Carson Fact Checking
When presidential candidate Ben Carson boasted Thomas Jefferson helped shape the U.S. Constitution, left-leaning news agencies pounced on him like peasants in the former communist Soviet Union would pounce on the last available loaf of bread in the bread line.
“But I’m particularly impressed with Thomas Jefferson, who seemed to have very deep insight into the way that people would react and tried to craft our Constitution in a way that it would control people’s national tendencies and control the natural growth of the government,” were the words uttered by Carson that sent the desperate legions of liberal bloggers and journalists into a frenzy.
Thomas Jefferson helped draft the constitution? What an unthinkable notion. Something must be done to correct this blatant revisionist attack on American history.
USA Today’s David Jackson, without fact checking, stated, “Jefferson, however, did not participate in the development of the U.S. Constitution during a 1787 convention. As Carson himself pointed out in his book A More Perfect Union, Jefferson was serving as U.S. minister to France at that time.”
That neutral political outlet Politico followed suit, claiming, “Carson says, wrongly, that Thomas Jefferson crafted the Constitution”.
In a gem of misinformation penned by Politico’s Nolan D. McCaskill, “Jefferson crafted the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution.”
At Newsweek, a once well-trusted source, Jack Martinez jumped on the ill-informed bandwagon.
“It’s a bit of a trick question, because there isn’t a sole author. That fact appeared to be lost on Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson when he said during a recent interview that Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence,” Martinez wrote. Carson didn’t say Jefferson was author of the Declaration of Independence, but let’s not let any facts get in the way of a good viral “gotchya” story during an election, especially if it’s against a Republican.
The list goes on and on. Hanry Gaas, Christian Science Monitor; Noah Feldman, Bloomberg; Chad Merda, Chicago Sun Times; and many others dropped the ball on the story.
Only one however as of this morning had the integrity to admit they were wrong. David Mastio of Gannett’s USA Today got the story right in his story, “Oops! Carson’s not actually wrong about Jefferson”.
“…here’s an interesting historical footnote to the Constitutional Convention. At the time, an early version of email was available. It was the social media of its day, called letters. Important people, say, the U.S. minister in France, could give pieces of paper to ship captains who’d take them by boat all the way to Philadelphia,” Mastio wrote.
Even the ACLU, the liberal bastion of idiocracy agrees the media had it all wrong.
Jefferson while he never “wrote” the Declaration of Independence did play a significant role in its creation (crafting).
According to the ACLU’s take on the whole affair, Jefferson lobbied those who did the actual “writing” to include the Bill of Rights, a cornerstone of the Declaration of Independence.
“So, the Constitution’s framers heeded Thomas Jefferson who argued: A bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference,” the story went.
None of this matters, they’ve all moved on to their next meal, like seagulls to a french fry.
Dolphin Arena at Great Adventure Demolished
JACKSON-Six Flags Great Adventure began demolishing the Fort Independence arena, the former home of the theme park’s Dolphin Discovery program, last week to make way for a new attraction at the park.
Built in 1974, it was one of the largest original structures at the theme park. It was originally named “Aqua Spectacle” and seated nearly 2,000 guests. It featured a 16 foot deep pool for dolphins, seals and sea lions. It was once the centerpiece attraction for the park.
Once the home of dare-devil aquatic high divers, it was the centerpiece attraction for decades. During its heydey there were six dolphin shows and six high-diving shows each day.
“The original shows at the Aqua Spectacle were really unique. While most parks that had dolphin shows at the time had two or three performing animals, Great Adventure featured ten performing at one time,” according to GreatAdventureHistory.Com, “The diving shows featured an array of dives from platforms of varying heights, with multiple divers performing stunt dives. The show was capped with the dive from the 100 foot high platform high above the pool.”
The diving shows ended back 2001. In 2002, the more recent Dolphin Discovery programs were established. The dolphin shows came to an end after the 2011 season when Cody, one of dolphins starring in the shows died.
Avalon, the last living performing dolphin at the time was sent back to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California according to Kristin Siebeneicher, spokeswoman for the park.
The arena will make way for a new rollercoaster named Total Mayhem.

“We are thrilled to unveil one of the newest concepts in roller coaster engineering with Total Mayhem,” said Park President John Fitzgerald. “Six Flags Great Adventure’s world-renowned coaster collection will expand into the realm of insanity – or spinsanity – with this new, vertical coaster that delivers gravity-defying somersaults with utter unpredictability. It is the perfect addition to our dynamic line-up of award-winning roller coasters because this ride delivers next generation, cutting-edge thrills.”
Total Mayhem features a twisting and floating experience onboard 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to 8 passengers per car. Face-off seats will allow riders to face each other as they tumble head over heels. A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift is accompanied by two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling.
Total Mayhem is expected to open in the spring of 2016.
