CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Four people, including three children, were found dead inside a Chesapeake home Thursday morning in what authorities are investigating as a possible murder-suicide, police said.

Officers responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 3000 block of Welcome Road at approximately 6:54 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered an armed occupant who had barricaded themselves inside.

Police established a perimeter and began negotiations, calling in the SWAT team and hostage negotiators due to the situation. Authorities later received information suggesting that injured or deceased juveniles might be inside the home.

Given the urgency, the SWAT team forced entry and discovered three deceased juveniles and one deceased adult female. Preliminary findings indicate the woman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The Chesapeake Police Department has not released the identities of the victims or any possible motives, and the investigation remains ongoing.
