Community floods AHS Lacey with donations after urgent animal food plea

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A heartfelt call for help turned into an overwhelming wave of generosity this week after the Associated Humane Societies’ Lacey branch asked the public for food donations for its shelter animals.

Within just 48 hours, more than 100 packages arrived filled with dog food, cat food, treats, and supplies, completely restocking the Forked River facility.

Staff said the outpouring of support exceeded all expectations, allowing them to not only meet their own needs but also distribute supplies to other AHS locations across the state.

Key Points

  • AHS Lacey received over 100 food and supply donations in two days.
  • Donations included dog and cat food, collars, and treats from the shelter’s wishlist.
  • Extra supplies are being shared with other AHS shelters in need.

Donations pour in after shelter’s public plea

The Forked River shelter posted an appeal on social media earlier this week, citing a shortage of food and essential supplies for its growing population of rescued animals. The community’s response was immediate.

Boxes began arriving by the dozen, packed with everything from canned pet food to toys and leashes. “Wow… just wow,” the shelter posted in an update. “You all truly came through!”

Community generosity reaches beyond one location

AHS officials said the surge of donations ensured no animal in their care would go without food. The support was so strong that surplus items were shipped to other AHS facilities also facing shortages.

“You didn’t just help the animals here — you helped animals across our entire organization,” the shelter wrote.

Continuing impact and gratitude

Shelter staff thanked residents and supporters across New Jersey for their compassion, noting that the generosity would sustain operations well beyond the immediate need.

From the “bottom of our hearts (and paws),” they said, “thank you.”
