LAKEWOOD, NJ – New Jersey could soon see its first Orthodox Jewish assemblyman if a bid for office by Rabbi Avi Schnall, of Lakewood is successful in November. Schnall, who formerly was the New Jersey Director of Agudath Israel of America was chosen this week by Democrats to replace Lakewood committeewoman and Democrat party leader Marta Harrison on the ballot.
Harrison, according to the NJ Globe stepped aside to allow for Schnall to run for office.
Schnall served as the director of Agudath Israel of America’s New Jersey office. He is a prominent advocate for the Orthodox Jewish community, engaging with policymakers, educators, and community leaders to address issues affecting Orthodox Jews in New Jersey. Rabbi Schnall is particularly involved in issues related to education, religious freedom, and social services.
Before his tenure with Agudath Israel, Rabbi Schnall had already gained experience in community service and leadership. His education and upbringing within the Orthodox community provided him with a deep understanding of its traditions, challenges, and needs, which he has employed to effectively represent the community’s interests.
