Cops nab suspect in deadly DC street shooting

Suspect arrested in Southeast DC shooting that killed Baltimore man

Washington, DC – Nearly six months after a deadly shooting along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, police have made an arrest in the case that claimed the life of a 39-year-old Baltimore resident.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. on March 18 in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. Officers arriving on scene found Derrick Howard, 39, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, Howard was pronounced dead.

Following an extensive investigation, detectives secured a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. On Wednesday, September 17, police arrested 31-year-old Andre Townsend of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.

The case remains under active investigation.
