HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – After a year marked by shifting menus and a polarizing rebrand attempt that left loyal diners longing for the old days, Cracker Barrel is heading back to what it knows best — homestyle cooking and family tradition.

The question is, will New Yorkers, Pennsylvanians, and New Jerseyans return to the restaurant this year for Thanksgiving?

The company, which faced criticism earlier this year for straying from its country-inspired identity in favor of a more modern image, is now doubling down on comfort classics and Southern hospitality.

Starting Tuesday, October 21, Cracker Barrel will relaunch a holiday menu steeped in nostalgia, featuring returning favorites and new seasonal creations designed to bring guests “back to the table.”

Key Points

  • Cracker Barrel pivots away from its recent rebranding, returning to classic Southern-style offerings.
  • Holiday menu launches October 21 with Country Fried Turkey, Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, and a new Breakfast Burger.
  • Thanksgiving Heat & Serve meals start at $114.99 and are available for pre-order nationwide.

Back to basics after a year of change

Cracker Barrel’s leadership acknowledges that the brand’s recent effort to appeal to younger demographics with experimental menu items and store design updates didn’t resonate with longtime customers. The company’s return to “heritage recipes” marks a renewed focus on its identity as America’s old country store — a place for comfort, community, and consistency.

“The holidays are a time to celebrate and make lasting memories with the people that matter to us most, and nothing brings people together like a scratch-made, comforting meal,” said Thomas Yun, Vice President of Menu Strategy & Innovation. “We love being a place where folks can focus on their loved ones — whether they’re joining us in-restaurant or at home.”

Holiday favorites make a comeback

The 2025 holiday menu celebrates the brand’s roots with the long-awaited return of the Country Fried Turkey — hand-breaded tenderloins topped with creamy herbed gravy, two country sides, cranberry relish, and biscuits or corn muffins.

Also returning are the fan-favorite Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, featuring cinnamon streusel bread griddled to perfection and finished with cream cheese icing, and the savory Turkey Sausage, now reformulated for richer flavor.

A new addition, the Breakfast Burger, combines breakfast indulgence with dinner comfort — a beef patty stacked with bacon, a sunny-side-up egg, American cheese, and Cracker Barrel’s signature Hashbrown Casserole on a toasted buttermilk bun.

Heat & Serve meals simplify Thanksgiving

Cracker Barrel’s popular Heat & Serve Holiday Meals are back, offering families a fully prepared dinner ready in about two hours. The meals, starting at $114.99, include turkey, classic sides, cranberry relish, and fresh-baked pies.

The Heat & Serve Family Dinner serves four to six, while the Feast serves eight to ten and includes both pumpkin and pecan pies. Pre-orders are open now for pickup between November 22 and 30.

Renewed focus on quality and heritage

To reinforce its recommitment to traditional recipes, Cracker Barrel is rolling out new training programs for managers and kitchen staff nationwide. The initiative emphasizes the brand’s foundational dishes and ensures consistency in preparation and presentation.

Alongside the returning holiday favorites, the company is introducing the Broccoli Cheese Casserole, a creamy, cracker-topped comfort dish, and the Merry Berry Tea, a new iced tea blend infused with wild berry flavor.

A return to what made Cracker Barrel iconic

Following a year of customer pushback over modernized menu tests and branding shifts, Cracker Barrel’s move back toward simplicity and authenticity is a strategic recalibration.

For many, the company’s charm has always been in its predictability — biscuits in baskets, rocking chairs on porches, and a holiday meal that feels like home.

This Thanksgiving, Cracker Barrel isn’t trying to reinvent itself — it’s trying to remind America why it became a holiday tradition in the first place.
