Cumberland police make two arrests in probation violation and Christmas night assault

CUMBERLAND, MD – The Cumberland Police Department made two separate arrests Monday stemming from unrelated cases involving a probation violation and an alleged Christmas night assault.

According to police, officers served a bench warrant on Cayden Louis Zona, 20, of Cumberland, after he was found to have violated the terms of his probation. Zona had been on probation following a previous charge of violating a protective order. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing and later released after posting a $100 bond.

In a separate case, officers arrested Steven Jefferson Battle, 36, of Cumberland, on an outstanding warrant related to an assault reported on December 25 at around 11 p.m. Police said the incident occurred at a home in the 800 block of Mt. Royal Avenue, where a woman told responding officers that Battle had assaulted her. Officers noted visible injuries on the victim, and Battle had already fled the scene by the time they arrived.

Police subsequently filed charges against Battle, who was later apprehended and appeared before a District Court Commissioner. He was released on his own recognizance following the hearing.

Cumberland police arrested two men Monday in connection with a probation violation and a separate holiday assault incident.
