US Marshals task force nabs suspect in 2024 Southwest DC shooting

WASHINGTON, DC – A 33-year-old Southwest man has been arrested more than a year after a shooting along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue left a victim wounded, authorities announced Thursday.

The Metropolitan Police Department said the arrest stems from a Nov. 28, 2024 shooting in the 3900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southwest.

Officers responded at approximately 8:50 p.m. that night and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS transported the victim to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, members of the Capital Area Regional Task Force executed a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and took Dennis Wilkins, 33, of Southwest, D.C., into custody.

Wilkins has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).

The case remains under review.
