Frankford man arrested for 7th DUI after erratic highway driving in Ellendale

Ellendale, DE – A Frankford man with six prior DUI convictions was arrested Tuesday night after troopers spotted him driving erratically on Milton-Ellendale Highway, according to Delaware State Police.

Around 9:00 p.m. on September 9, troopers patrolling near Sharon’s Road observed a silver GMC Yukon that was speeding up, slowing down, and drifting into the center of the road. Troopers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as 64-year-old Garry Phillips of Frankford, Delaware.

According to troopers, Phillips displayed clear signs of impairment and was given standardized field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody following the results. A computer check confirmed he had six prior DUI convictions and was driving on a suspended license.

Phillips was transported to Troop 7, where he was charged with the following offenses:

  • 7th Offense DUI (Felony)
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Failure to Remain in a Single Lane

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an $8,501 cash bond.
