WILMINGTON, DE – A 42-year-old man from Bear was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on New Linden Hill Road.
The fatal crash occurred around 1 a.m. east of Pike Creek Boulevard after several motorists reported seeing a man in the roadway.
When troopers arrived, they found the victim deceased in the travel lanes.
Investigators said the man had been observed sitting and lying in the roadway before being struck by an eastbound vehicle that left the scene.
Troopers searching for fleeing driver
Delaware State Police said the vehicle involved has not been identified, and detectives are working to determine its make and model. No description of the driver or car was available as of Saturday.
Roadway closed for several hours during investigation
The section of New Linden Hill Road where the crash occurred was shut down for about three hours while members of the Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim pending notification of family members.
