Delaware woman arrested for weapon offenses after road rage incident

GEORGETOWN, DE — Delaware State Police arrested 20-year-old Melleca Butler of Georgetown for multiple weapon-related felonies following a road rage incident. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, October 10, at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Troopers responded to Dupont Boulevard and Shortly Road after receiving reports of road rage involving a firearm. The victim, a 49-year-old man from Houston, Delaware, reported that a GMC Yukon displayed a handgun during the altercation before the vehicle continued southbound.

With help from the Millsboro Police Department, officers located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Laurel Road and Dupont Boulevard. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was identified as Butler, who matched the description provided by the victim.

A search of Butler’s vehicle revealed an unloaded handgun concealed between the driver’s seat and the center console. A computer inquiry showed that Butler did not have a permit to carry a concealed deadly weapon.

Butler was transported to Troop 4 for processing and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and aggravated menacing. She was later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2.

Following her arraignment, Butler was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $23,500 cash bond.
