Retail rampage sparks police chase through Wilmington streets

Wilmington, DE – A high-speed pursuit through Wilmington erupted Monday evening after three suspects looted a sporting goods store, with two caught red-handed hauling stolen gear as they tried to flee on foot.

It all kicked off around 6 p.m. at Dick’s House of Sport on Brandywine Parkway, where employees reported a trio swiping nearly $2,500 worth of merchandise before bolting in a Chevy Malibu with temporary tags. Troopers quickly located the vehicle barreling south on Concord Pike toward I-95 — but the driver refused to stop, speeding recklessly into the city and dodging traffic laws as sirens blared behind them.

The getaway came to an abrupt halt near East 28th Street and Jessup Street. As troopers closed in, suspects bailed from the Malibu, arms full of merchandise, attempting a desperate dash on foot through the neighborhood.

Kerryn Vinson, 35, and Taysha Bultran, 33, both from Wilmington, didn’t get far. Troopers nabbed Vinson after a brief chase. Bultran was caught moments later. A third suspect, described only as a Black male, remains on the run.

Both women were taken to Troop 1, where they were charged with felony theft related to organized retail crime, felony conspiracy, and resisting arrest. They were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on their own recognizance.
