Driver killed in single-vehicle crash in Union Vale as investigation continues
UNION VALE, NY — A 25-year-old man from Poughquag was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Clove Road Saturday evening after his pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a tree, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. on November 28. Preliminary findings revealed that a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Ryan E. Nichols was heading south near Mack Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The impact left Nichols with fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say unsafe speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, though the investigation remains active. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Town of Union Vale Fire Department.
The incident is being handled by members of the Sheriff’s Office’s Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit. Additional information may be released as it becomes available.
