BELMAR, NJ – Flames tore through a Belmar home Friday night as emergency crews raced to the scene in a desperate effort to save both lives and property.
Amid thick smoke and chaos, firefighters pulled a German Shepherd named Luca from the burning structure.
Wall Township EMS crews immediately began lifesaving treatment on the dog before rushing him to Red Bank Animal Hospital for emergency care.
Officials said Luca is now stable and expected to recover fully, crediting the coordinated response between firefighters and EMS for the successful rescue.
Rapid response saves trapped dog
The call came in Friday night for a working structure fire in Belmar, prompting multiple fire departments and Wall Township EMS to respond. Firefighters entered the home through heavy smoke conditions and located the trapped animal. Once outside, EMS personnel initiated oxygen therapy and emergency treatment on scene before transport.
Team effort credited for recovery
Veterinary staff at Red Bank Animal Hospital continued oxygen and IV care through the night, stabilizing Luca’s condition. Emergency officials later confirmed the dog’s vital signs had returned to normal and that he was resting comfortably under observation.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation by local fire officials.
