STAMFORD, Conn. — Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire on Settlers Trail in North Stamford on Tuesday, officials said. The fire broke out under the porch of a single-family home, prompting a response from multiple Stamford Fire Department units.
Crews from Engine 8 and Rescue 66 arrived at 43 Settlers Trail to find heavy smoke at the front entrance, as well as smoke emerging from the eaves of the roof. Firefighters declared a working fire and quickly began their efforts to contain the blaze, which involved cutting a hole in the roof and opening walls to prevent the flames from spreading to the attic.
During a search of the home, a dog was found uninjured in a first-floor bedroom. The pet was safely returned to its owner, who was not present when the fire started. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
The fire was brought under control within 22 minutes, with support from four engines, an aerial unit, a heavy rescue unit, and additional teams from the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department and the North District Deputy Chief. Stamford Emergency Medical Services, police, and other support personnel also assisted at the scene.
The home was undergoing renovations, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Division.
