TOMS RIVER – Dr. Daisy Century will portray Madame C. J. Walker, a 19th century entrepreneur and early civil rights advocate, during a speaking event from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.

Walker was one of America’s first female, self-made millionaire. A member of the NAACP, she was instrumental in making lynching a federal crime. The presentation is funded by the Friends of the Toms River Library and the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
