BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer has announced that a fatal fire incident occurred on Wednesday, at approximately 1:50 p.m. at 1 Miles Pond Road, resulting in the death of the homeowner, 77-year-old Janet Conroy.

The Berkeley Township Police Department, along with local Fire Departments, responded to the fire incident. During their efforts, they found Ms. Conroy’s body in the dining room of her home.

A thorough investigation by several agencies determined that the fire originated in the kitchen, specifically the dishwasher.

A failure of energized electrical equipment has not been ruled out as the cause of the fire. The incident has been classified as an accident.

Prosecutor Billhimer expressed gratitude to all agencies involved in the investigation and to those who assisted in locating Ms. Conroy’s family.
