Pylesville, MD – Fire crews from across Harford County fought a stubborn two-alarm house fire early Wednesday morning as heavy snow squalls swept through the area, hampering efforts to bring the blaze under control.
The fire broke out around 3:50 a.m. in the 1700 block of Scott Road, where units from the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company, Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, Citizens Volunteer Fire Company, and several surrounding departments arrived to find flames consuming the second floor of the residence. Officials said three adult occupants escaped the home before firefighters arrived, and no injuries have been reported.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire spread rapidly through the structure due to the building’s balloon-frame construction, which allows flames to travel quickly through concealed wall spaces. Despite treacherous weather conditions, crews continued to battle the fire as it advanced through multiple sections of the home.

Investigators have identified a preliminary area of origin but are waiting until the fire is fully contained before entering to conduct a full examination. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and Harford County emergency officials.
