CHERRY HILL, NJ – The Cherry Hill Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at the Express Inn earlier this evening. The fire, which involved a live Christmas tree, was successfully extinguished by the occupant using a fire extinguisher prior to the department’s arrival.

The incident was a result of the Christmas tree not being adequately watered and being placed too close to a heating device. Fortunately, the swift action of the occupant prevented any injuries and major damage.

In light of this event, the Cherry Hill Fire Department has issued guidelines to help prevent Christmas tree fires:

  • Ensure live Christmas trees receive a fresh cut to absorb water effectively.
  • Water the tree daily to maintain moisture.
  • Use only approved Christmas tree lights and ensure they are connected properly.
  • Regularly inspect lights and other powered decorations for potential hazards.
  • Carefully choose the location for the Christmas tree, keeping it away from heating devices.
  • Keep candles and other open flames away from the tree.

These preventive measures are crucial for ensuring a safe holiday season. The Cherry Hill Fire Department remains committed to the safety and well-being of the community.
