Five displaced after attic fire rips through Perth Amboy home during snowstorm

PERTH AMBOY, NJ – A late-night fire broke out during the onset of Friday’s snowstorm, forcing five residents from their home on the 600 block of Cornell Street, officials said. The blaze was reported around 7:32 p.m. when firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from the attic of a single-family house. Crews deployed two hose lines and quickly worked to confine and extinguish the flames.

Searches of the home confirmed all occupants were safely out, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters ventilated the structure while the Fire Investigation Unit examined the cause of the blaze. The displaced residents are being assisted by the city’s relocation officer and the Red Cross.

Responding units included Engines 1 and 2, Truck 2, Rescue 1, and command units C-1, C-2, C-4, and C-5. Engine 4 covered the city during the operation.
