LEONIA, NJ – Major roadwork will shut down a key stretch of Fort Lee Road starting Thursday as part of Bergen County’s ongoing resurfacing program, officials announced.
The project will close Fort Lee Road from Broad Avenue to Main Street beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, with milling scheduled through Friday afternoon and paving to follow on Monday, weather permitting.
During work hours, the road will be completely closed to traffic in both directions, and no through access will be permitted.
Residents living along Fort Lee Road, as well as Warwick Lane, Cumley Terrace, and Oratam Terrace, will temporarily lose driveway access for up to two hours after paving on Monday to allow the new surface to cool and set.
Detours and traffic impacts
Motorists will be detoured along Broad Avenue, Edsall Boulevard, Bergen Boulevard, and Route 1&9. Glenwood Avenue will also be closed at the Fort Lee Road intersection, and drivers are urged to use Broad Avenue as an alternate route.
The traffic flow near Anna C. Scott School will be affected, prompting the closure of Highland Street during construction. School administrators plan to issue further instructions to families regarding pickup and drop-off changes.
Sanitation and holiday schedule adjustments
The Department of Public Works will begin sanitation collection an hour earlier—starting at 6 a.m.—on Thursday and Friday to avoid conflicts with construction crews. Residents in the work zone are advised to place bins out early.
DPW operations will be closed on Monday in observance of Columbus Day.
With heavy machinery and paving crews taking over Fort Lee Road, Leonia residents are being urged to plan ahead and expect delays through early next week.
