WOODBRIDGE, VA – A Fredericksburg man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a 26-year-old man inside a Woodbridge home last week, according to the Prince William County Police Department. Investigators say Terry Lamar Newton Jr., 27, was taken into custody Monday and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Newton is being held without bond, and a court date is pending.

The shooting occurred around 6:57 p.m. on December 22 at a residence in the 15600 block of John Diskin Circle. Police determined that the victim was visiting the home and was in the basement when gunfire erupted from the backyard, striking him once in the lower body. The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Investigators believe the shooter fled in a vehicle immediately after the attack and have stated the incident does not appear to be random.

In a separate case, officers arrested Ricardo Argueta Sorto, 28, of Gainesville, following a disturbance at Sazon Latina on Somerset Crossing Drive Monday night. Police say Argueta Sorto was intoxicated, began removing his clothing, and exposed himself to other patrons. When officers intervened, he allegedly became combative, kicking one officer and spitting on another. He faces charges of two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, one count of making threats to an officer, and one count of public intoxication.

Police are asking anyone with information related to either case to contact the Prince William County Police tip line at 703-792-7000 or submit information online at pwcva.gov/policetip.
