WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 19-year-old Northeast DC man has been arrested in connection with a Benning Road shooting that left a two-year-old boy wounded inside an apartment, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Casanova Lamons was arrested Tuesday by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant. MPD said Lamons has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon involving a gun.
The arrest comes nearly three months after gunfire erupted inside an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Benning Road NE. Police said the suspect discharged a firearm before fleeing, and responding officers discovered the two-year-old boy suffering from a graze wound.

Gunfire Leaves Young Child Wounded Inside Apartment
Fifth District officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Benning Road NE at approximately 9:50 p.m. June 9 following a report of a shooting.
According to MPD, the suspect had discharged a firearm inside the apartment complex and left before officers arrived.
Police subsequently found the two-year-old boy inside an apartment suffering from a graze wound caused by the shooting.
DC Fire and EMS transported the child to a local hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
MPD’s announcement did not say whether the child was the intended target of the gunfire or provide additional details about the circumstances leading to the shooting.
Fugitive Task Force Arrests Casanova Lamons
The investigation culminated Tuesday when members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Lamons, according to MPD.
The arrest was carried out pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Police identified Lamons as a resident of Northeast DC.
