Fugitive task force nabs second suspect in deadly D.C. shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A second arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Townsend Reginald Sowell, who was killed in Northeast D.C. last September.

Officers responded to gunfire in the 2800 block of 7th Street, Northeast, around 1:19 a.m. on September 2, 2024. Upon arrival, they found Sowell suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On January 24, 2025, the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 29-year-old Rogea Murray of Northeast D.C. He was taken to the Homicide Branch and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.

A previous arrest in the case occurred on September 11, 2024, when a 32-year-old man from Temple Hills, Maryland, was also charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.
