Gas station fight turns fatal; suspect arrested at Walmart

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A woman was found dead early Monday morning following a reported fight at a Shell gas station on Sweeten Creek Road, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene at 4012 Sweeten Creek Road just before 7 a.m. and located the deceased woman upon arrival. Authorities have not released her identity, pending notification of next of kin.

A suspect was arrested shortly afterward at the Walmart on Airport Road without incident, officials said. The individual is currently being interviewed by detectives, and charges are expected to be filed. His name will be released once charges are finalized.

“The suspect was arrested a short time later at the Walmart on Airport Road without incident,” said District 1 Captain Dustan Auldredge. “This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.”

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
