Gas station gamble pays off with $500K per year lottery win

Luzerne County player wins $500K a year for life on Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off

WHITE HAVEN, PA – One Pennsylvania Lottery player just secured a lifetime payday after hitting the top prize on the $500,000 a Year for Life scratch-off ticket sold at a convenience store in Luzerne County.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Exxon station located at 500 Church Street in White Haven Borough. For selling the life-changing winner, the retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus.

The $500,000 a Year for Life game is a $20 scratch-off that gives players a choice between receiving $500,000 annually for life or a one-time lump sum payment of $7.25 million, before taxes. The lottery did not disclose whether the winner selected the annuity or the cash option.

According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, scratch-offs are distributed at random, and retailers are unaware of winning tickets until they are redeemed. All scratch-off prizes must be claimed within one year of the game’s official end-sale date.

As with all lottery prizes exceeding $5,000, applicable federal and state taxes will be withheld.
