Georgia man charged after woman found shot on roadside in New Jersey

BOONTON, NJ – A Georgia man has been arrested and charged in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting that left a woman injured on the side of a Morris County road, authorities said. Prosecutors announced that 37-year-old Jovan Young, of Jonesboro, Georgia, was taken into custody after a woman was found with a gunshot wound to her abdomen near Old Boonton Road and Pocono Road in Denville around 9:30 p.m. on December 24.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was discovered lying on the roadside in the fetal position and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined that the victim and Young, both originally from Georgia with ties to New Jersey, had been together earlier in the day. On December 25, officers located Young in Boonton and arrested him, recovering a 9mm handgun and multiple magazines loaded with hollow point ammunition.

Young was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree endangering an injured person, fourth-degree possession of hollow point cartridges, and fourth-degree certain persons not to have weapons or ammunition. He was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.
