LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A 19-year-old woman was killed early Thursday when she was shot in the head inside a Lawrenceville home, and her boyfriend has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting.
The incident happened around 1:19 a.m. on Lauren Kay Court, where officers responded to reports of a person shot.
Police said they found the victim in an upstairs bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Boyfriend detained at the scene
According to investigators, the victim’s boyfriend remained at the residence and was detained without incident. Police said all occupants of the home, including the suspect, cooperated with detectives.
Charge filed after initial investigation
Following the preliminary investigation, officers arrested 19-year-old Sebastian Prestridge and charged him with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending notification of her family.
Police call case ‘incredibly tragic’
Captain Dena Pauly, a spokesperson for the Lawrenceville Police Department, described the shooting as “an incredibly tragic situation” and said investigators are working to ensure a complete and transparent inquiry.
Police have not released additional details about what led up to the shooting as the investigation remains ongoing.
