PITTSBURGH, PA – Allegheny County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon after a man allegedly opened fire at a woman and her dog outside an apartment building in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.
According to county police, the incident began around 4:12 p.m. on the 4700 block of Centre Avenue when Pittsburgh officers responded to reports of an assault in progress involving a weapon. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man outside the building threatening an adult female and her dog with a gun. Commands to drop the weapon were ignored, police said, and the suspect fired several rounds at the woman and the animal before attempting to flee.
Officers returned fire during the exchange, but the suspect soon surrendered without further incident. Investigators said the victim’s dog was struck by gunfire and is being treated for critical injuries at a veterinary facility. The woman suffered facial injuries from the assault and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Detectives later determined that before police arrived, the same suspect had confronted an employee at a nearby business and fired one shot in that person’s direction. No additional injuries were reported in that encounter.
Allegheny County detectives are leading the investigation and said preliminary details may change as evidence is reviewed and witness statements are collected. Updates will be released through official social media channels as more information becomes available.
