Man arrested after allegedly firing at woman during Southwest DC dispute
Washington, DC — A Southeast man has been arrested and charged after allegedly pointing a gun at a woman and firing a shot during a heated confrontation in Southwest Washington last month, police announced Monday.
The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, in the 1400 block of Canal Street SW. According to investigators, the suspect initiated a verbal altercation with the victim before pulling out a firearm and aiming it directly at her. The woman fled, prompting the suspect to fire a single shot in her direction. She was not struck.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Derrick Carter of Southeast DC, was arrested on Saturday, January 3, under the authority of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
No injuries were reported in the shooting. The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain under investigation.
