Popcorn the guinea pig steals hearts as Monmouth County SPCA seeks forever home

TINTON FALLS, NJ – There’s a new arrival at the Monmouth County SPCA, and his name is Popcorn — a six-month-old guinea pig looking for his first and forever family. The tiny newcomer, known for his soft squeaks and calm personality, is winning hearts among shelter visitors this week.

Shelter staff describe Popcorn as affectionate and people-friendly, often purring contentedly when held. Though he prefers to be the only guinea pig in the household, he’s expected to bring plenty of warmth and companionship to whoever adopts him.

The SPCA says small pets like Popcorn are often overlooked, but they make wonderful companions for families, seniors, and first-time pet owners alike.

SPCA invites families to meet Popcorn this weekend

The Tinton Falls shelter is open for visitors Friday from 12–7 p.m. and all weekend from 12–5 p.m. Potential adopters are encouraged to stop by, meet Popcorn, and learn more about the adoption process.

Staff members note that guinea pigs require regular grooming, a clean habitat, and daily attention, but in return, they provide gentle affection and endless charm.

Key points:
• Popcorn, a 6-month-old guinea pig, is available for adoption at the Monmouth County SPCA
• He enjoys human attention but prefers being the only guinea pig in the home
• The shelter is open for adoptions Friday through Sunday in Tinton Falls

A chance for a new beginning

The SPCA hopes Popcorn’s story inspires more families to consider adopting smaller pets in need of care. For those interested in giving Popcorn a home, adoption information is available through the shelter’s website or in person during visiting hours.
