$1 million-winning holiday scratch-off sold at Rutter’s in York County

HANOVER, PA – One lucky Pennsylvania Lottery player is celebrating a seven-figure win after purchasing a $1 million Merry Money Match Scratch-Off ticket at a York County convenience store, officials confirmed Thursday.

The top-prize ticket was sold at Rutter’s, located at 661 Broadway in Hanover Borough. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Merry Money Match is a $30 holiday-themed scratch-off game offering multiple top prizes of $1 million. The Pennsylvania Lottery does not track where winning tickets are sold until a player comes forward to claim the prize, as all Scratch-Offs are distributed randomly.

The Lottery advises all winners to immediately sign the back of their ticket and call its claims office. Prizes must be claimed within one year from the game’s official end-sale date, which is posted at palottery.com.

As required by law, prizes over $5,000 are subject to applicable federal and state tax withholdings.

The announcement comes as the Pennsylvania Lottery continues to promote the National Council on Problem Gambling’s annual Gift Responsibly campaign, which raises awareness that lottery tickets are not suitable gifts for children.
