Gunfire erupts overnight on V Street NW as police search for suspect

Washington, DC – A manhunt is underway after a shooting in the early morning hours Friday in the 200 block of V Street NW, where Metropolitan Police responded to reports of gunfire and are now searching for a suspect who fled the scene.

Police units from the 3rd District were dispatched just after 1:20 a.m. following reports of a shooting in the residential area near Howard University. No details on victims or injuries have been released as of early Friday morning.

The suspect is described as a Black male with a slim build, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black beanie, according to preliminary information provided by investigators at the scene.

Officers established a perimeter shortly after arriving and are canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage or witnesses. Police have not released a motive, and it remains unclear whether the shooting was targeted or random.

Residents in the area were urged not to approach the suspect and to report any sightings or information immediately to police by calling 911.
