Suffolk County, NY – A Huntington Station man has been indicted on attempted murder and assault charges after prosecutors say he opened fire at a house party in West Babylon last month, leaving a 17-year-old seriously injured.
Savion Jones, 22, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Prosecutors allege Jones shot the teen three times on August 15, including once in the leg, striking the victim’s femoral artery and vein.
The shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. outside a residence where a party was underway. Suffolk County Police officers responded quickly and applied a tourniquet that officials say saved the victim’s life before the teen was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Detectives identified Jones as the alleged gunman through surveillance footage, according to investigators.
At Tuesday’s arraignment, Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz ordered Jones held on $1 million cash bail, $2 million bond, or $5 million secured bond. Jones faces up to 25 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision if convicted of the top count.
The case is being prosecuted by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau.
