Police say a Fairview officer captured the suspect on foot shortly after a violent dispute left a 60-year-old man seriously injured.
Fairview, NJ – A 50-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after allegedly stabbing his roommate multiple times during a dispute inside a Fairview home, authorities said.
The incident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. inside a multi-family residence on Grant Street, according to Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Jeff Angermeyer.

Victim stabbed during dispute
Authorities said the two men began fighting inside the home when the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a weapon.
The 60-year-old victim suffered stab wounds to the face, hands, and legs during the confrontation.
Emergency crews transported the victim to Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Suspect captured while fleeing
Investigators identified the suspect as Victor Adolfo Soto, a 50-year-old Guatemalan national.
Authorities said Soto fled the residence on foot toward Fairview Avenue following the attack but was quickly apprehended by a responding Fairview police officer.
Soto was charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault, and two weapons offenses.
Investigation underway
Soto remained held in the Bergen County Jail following his arrest.
Officials said Immigration and Customs Enforcement was expected to lodge a detainer that could keep him in custody pending a deportation hearing before a federal judge in Newark.
Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation, with assistance from forensic detectives from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification.
Separate death reported nearby
Authorities noted the crime scene is located near a Fairview Avenue apartment where a 21-year-old man died by suicide Thursday night.
Officials have not indicated any connection between the two incidents.
