CUMBERLAND, MD – A Saturday night pursuit through Allegany County ended with the arrest of an Indiana man accused of stealing a vehicle from a local hospital.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Mount Savage Road near Ellerslie Road just after 8 p.m.
The driver refused to yield, leading officers on a chase before being apprehended without injury.

Stolen vehicle traced to hospital theft
According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, deputies confirmed that the vehicle Broadwater was driving had been reported stolen from UPMC Hospital only hours before the chase. Law enforcement officials pursued the vehicle after the driver failed to stop during a routine traffic attempt, initiating a controlled pursuit that ended safely.
Multiple charges filed after pursuit
Broadwater was taken into custody and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, rogue and vagabond, unauthorized removal of a vehicle, theft between $1,500 and $25,000, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, obstructing and hindering, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
Authorities said no injuries occurred among deputies, the suspect, or the public, and no property damage was reported. Deputies credited the coordinated effort for the safe resolution of the incident.
Ongoing investigation
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the theft and any potential connections Broadwater may have to other crimes in the region. He remains held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending court proceedings.
