Jackson, NJ – As the new year begins, Jackson Township Council President Michael Burnstein is exploring thoughtful and structured approaches to enhance public engagement during township council meetings.

Burnstein, who was named council president after appointing former Councilwoman Jennifer Kuhn to mayor, said the goal is to make meetings more accessible and participatory for residents.

Among the ideas already raised by community members is a proposal to move the open public comment portion to the start of each session, allowing residents to speak on agenda items before council votes occur. Another proposal would permit up to three minutes of public comment per speaker immediately before votes are taken on resolutions.

Residents are encouraged to submit feedback and additional ideas to Burnstein at mburnstein@jacksontwpnj.net by February 2.

All submissions will be reviewed in collaboration with the council, with approved adjustments expected to take effect at the February 10 council meeting.

Burnstein said the initiative reflects a broader effort to strengthen civic dialogue and ensure residents have meaningful opportunities to contribute to township decision-making. Community feedback, he noted, remains a central element of maintaining an open, transparent, and inclusive local government in Jackson.
