Jewish Community Council thanks township officials for coordinating annual ritual

Jackson, NJ – The Jackson Jewish Community Council has announced four designated locations across the township for the annual chometz burning ahead of Passover, with local officials and firefighters assisting in organizing and overseeing the event which include large open burn pits within roll-off dumpsters at the designated sites.

The supervised burnings are scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., providing residents with safe, approved locations to dispose of chometz in accordance with the religious tradition ahead of Passover.

The four sites will be spread across Jackson, including Bais Yaakov Elementary School (formerly Sylvia Rosenauer Elementary School) on Citadel Drive, Johnson Memorial Park on Kierych Memorial Drive, Royal Grove Shul on East Veterans Highway, and a newly added location at the ShopRite of Jackson on North County Line Road.

At this time, Jackson Township is at a ‘moderate’ fire warning level issued by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and there are no restrictions on campfires.

Township coordination and safety guidelines

The Jackson Jewish Community Council acknowledged the role of township leadership and departments in facilitating the event. The organization thanked Mayor Jennifer Kuhn, the Jackson Department of Public Works, Jackson Police Department, Jackson Fire Department, and fire officials for helping coordinate logistics and ensure safety at each site.

“Thank you to Jackson Mayor Jennifer Kuhn, Jackson Department of Public Works, Jackson Police Department, Jackson Fire Department and Jackson Fire Officials for making this possible,” the Jackson Jewish Community Council said in the advertisement for the event.

Residents attending the burnings are being reminded of specific safety rules, including a prohibition on bringing cans or bottles to be burned.

Township officials also noted that residents with bulky waste unrelated to chometz should use the Jackson Township Transfer Station at 40 Don Connor Boulevard. The facility operates Friday through Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Regular household trash collection remains handled through residents’ contracted waste providers.
