Jackson Township Mayor Jennifer L. Kuhn and the Jackson Township Council joined members of the community for the annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony at town hall to celebrate the start of Hanukkah Monday night.
The ceremony began with Mayor Kuhn taking a moment of silence in recognition of the tragic Hanukkah terror attack that happened on Sunday in Australia, as gunmen killed 15 people during a public Hanukkah celebration.
Mayor Kuhn then extended warm wishes to all those celebrating Hanukkah, emphasizing hopes for a safe, peaceful, and joyous holiday season.
Council President Mordechai Burnstein echoed Mayor Kuhn’s remarks on the attack in Australia and emphasized the importance of unity within the Jackson community.
“Hanukkah is the holiday where light outshines the darkness,” Councilman Burnstein said. “We have to remember to never give up on the light, even in times of darkness.”
Council Vice President Giuseppe Palmeri, who attended the ceremony along with Councilmen Chris Pollack, and Ken Bressi said, “It was a pleasure attending the Jackson Township Menorah Lighting this evening. The energy, spirit, and sense of community were truly uplifting. Wishing everyone celebrating a Happy Hanukkah filled with light, peace, and joy.”
The annual Menorah Lighting is a reminder of the values that unite the Jackson Township community — compassion, respect, and the celebration of diversity, hosted by Rabbi Shuel Nparstek. Next year, the Chabad of Jackson will celebrate its 10th year serving the community.
Township officials expressed their appreciation to all who participated and helped make the event a memorable and uplifting occasion.
