JACKSON, NJ – Jackson Township Mayor Michael Reina has given the initial approval for a Howell Township-based DJ, PJ Windle to bring his new pop-up drive-in movie venture to the township. Windle’s new business is called Back to the Movies Drive Ins and he’s hoping more towns sign on to his new service.
The popup theater will be at Johnson Park, which once served as the township landfill. Since it was filled in, Johnson Park has become host to the annual Jackson Day celebration and one of the primary practice fields for youth sports in the township. It also boasts a dog park, tennis courts and basketball courts nearby. The town has yet to finalize the venture or reveal details of costs and accessibility, but Mayor Michael Reina says the venture has his blessing.
At this time, the prospect of a drive-in movie event could be thwarted by Governor Phil Murphy after he shut down a drive through tulip farm last week in neighboring Cream Ridge. This week Murphy opened parks, but no determination has been made yet by the administration on the reopening of drive-in and drive-through vehicle-based events.
“What a great way to get back into life, enjoying time with family while maintaining safe and responsible social distancing. We are very much looking forward to having this happen,” Reina said.
“We will have a food truck with online ordering and contactless delivery,” the company said on its website. “Pre-order snacks that will be ready when you arrive… And an FM station to listen to the audio right in your car!”
