BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Jamestown man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly threatening to kill a Department of Homeland Security agent and the agent’s family in an online post, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, 43-year-old Matthew White was charged with threatening to assault and murder a federal law enforcement officer and with transmitting an interstate communication containing a threat to injure. The charges carry a combined maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
Prosecutors said that on April 30, 2025, White made a direct threat against a Homeland Security Investigations agent in an attempt to interfere with the officer’s official duties. White allegedly posted the message on the social media platform X, stating, “I can’t wait to put a bullet into this guy’s brain, but first his children.”
White was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and released under court-imposed conditions pending trial.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan.
Prosecutors emphasized that an indictment is only an allegation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
