Traffic stop in Chesapeake leads to drug bust, loaded guns, and arrest
CHESAPEAKE, VA — A routine traffic stop in Chesapeake turned into a major drug and firearms bust earlier this month after officers pulled over a vehicle with inactive plates and discovered narcotics, weapons, and cash following a K-9 alert.
On October 1, Chesapeake Police officers stopped a vehicle in the 2600 block of South Military Highway. Observing suspicious behavior from the driver, officers requested a K-9 unit. The police dog, K-9 Riggs, alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search.
Inside the car, officers recovered two loaded 9mm handguns, digital scales with suspected cocaine residue, packaging materials, an undisclosed amount of cocaine and crack cocaine, and a sum of cash. The driver was arrested at the scene.
During a subsequent search incident to the arrest, officers located an additional 30 grams of cocaine, 1.95 grams of crack cocaine, and $2,353 in cash on the individual. The vehicle was towed, and all evidence was secured for processing.
Pending charges against the driver include two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I or II drugs, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of Schedule I or II Drugs.
