Traffic stop on N. Centre Street ends with drug arrests after K-9 detects meth
CUMBERLAND, MD – A routine overnight traffic stop in downtown Cumberland led to two arrests after a police K-9 alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside a vehicle early Monday morning.
At around 1:28 a.m., a Cumberland Police Department officer initiated a stop on a vehicle traveling along North Centre Street. During the stop, a K-9 unit was called to assist and quickly alerted to the odor of suspected narcotics.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered suspected methamphetamine in the possession of two occupants — 52-year-old Mathews Mark Norris and 42-year-old April Lynn Miller, both residents of Cumberland.
Norris and Miller were taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. Each was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not classified as cannabis. They were issued criminal citations and released pending trial.
No additional charges were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
