Traffic stop and domestic call lead to multiple arrests in Cumberland
CUMBERLAND, Md. — A traffic stop that led to drug charges and a separate domestic assault investigation resulted in four arrests Tuesday, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
During routine patrol in the area of Henderson Avenue, officers observed a traffic violation and conducted a stop. Based on observations at the scene, a K9 unit was requested. A free air sniff resulted in an alert, police said.
A subsequent search of the vehicle and its occupants yielded controlled dangerous substances and related paraphernalia. Leon Wilton Britton, 39, of Cumberland, and Marteas Kyron Brown, 24, of Cumberland, were arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for initial appearances. Britton was held on a $10,000 bond, while Brown was held without bond.
Britton faces charges including possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of controlled dangerous substances, and possession of paraphernalia. Brown faces charges of possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of controlled dangerous substances, and possession of paraphernalia.

In a separate incident, officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Leiper Street for a reported domestic assault. Police said a mutual assault occurred between Cody Michael Horwath, 36, and Stanley Dale Horwath, 74, during which a blunt weapon and a bladed weapon were used.
Both men were arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where they await initial court appearances. Cody Horwath is charged with first- and second-degree assault. Stanley Horwath is charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
The charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
