Stafford, VA – A kitten was successfully rescued from the engine compartment of a Toyota RAV4 in Stafford County on Tuesday morning. The kitten, named Kitty Purry, had found its way into the engine compartment as the weather fluctuated.

The vehicle’s driver discovered the kitten when he stopped at the Solomon Road 7-Eleven and heard a noise from the engine. Deputy O. J. Martins responded to the scene and, with assistance from patrol deputies and the vehicle owner, initiated a rescue operation.

The rescue effort took approximately an hour and a half. The team used a lockout kit, snake hook, and snappy snare to safely remove Kitty Purry from the engine. The kitten was then transported to the Animal Shelter and is currently not available for adoption.

For those interested in adopting a pet, the Stafford County Animal Shelter has other animals ready for immediate placement in loving homes. Inquiries for adopting Kitty Purry can be directed to animalshelter@staffordcountyva.gov.

Deputy Martins and the team received appreciation for their role in the successful rescue. Photos from the incident are available on the Facebook page of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
